NHS England launches public consultation
developing long-term plan for the NHS
Talking to my very experienced Lymphoedema Nurse, she gave me her low-down on the NHS; the grass-roots know what needs to be fixed, but they are fed up with expensive management consultants coming in and instituting changes – never for the better. These consltants don’t want to share their mega-fees with anyone else, so won’t ask patients what is needed. Now, the fact that the NHS is actually seeking patient advice, and asking us to comment is an opportunity we should grab before the consultants manage to get involved ; –
You and I know the usual attitude towards patients is one of trying to pretend we don’t exist, but – you never know. NHS England, tasked with running the survey, might, just might listen to us, and want to know what those in other areas want. The Patients’ Association certainly thinks so, and urges everyone to send in comments and suggestions (restrain yourselves). Scotland and Wales should keep a beady eye on what they are up to, to ensure any good ideas get rolled out across the UK, and make sure they either fill in the survey, or get friends to do so.
What’s it all about?
The survey will take a few minutes of your time, and is aimed at developing (yet another) long term plan for the NHS. Finally NHS England is inviting patients and the public to have their say in what happens to the NHS in the next 10 years. There will probably be some mega-expensive firm of ‘management consultants’ behind all of this, so we, the patients, need to tell them overwhelmingly what WE need, so there is no denying the facts.
The consultation is wide-ranging and invites responses to general issues, such as what the core values underpinning a long term plan for the NHS should be, and also delves into more detail on specific matters, for example, on how the health and care system can learn from other industries who use digital technology effectively. Hallelujah!
The Patients Association will be submitting its consultation response directly to NHS England, and you can respond directly online here https://www.engage.england.nhs.uk/consultation/developing-the-long-term-plan-for-the-nhs/consultation/subpage.2018-08-22.7670550315/

Go on – let them know what genuine Patients think. It might shock them, but you never know …………
