Oscar-winning actress fights for Lymphoedema
When Americans think their healthcare needs a spokesperson, they field the big guns. Albeit Oscar-winning Kathy Bates might seem an odd choice.
But she uses every trick in the book to get her message over, and anyone having to speak up on behalf of their medical condition could learn something e.g. watch the way she highlights her compression garments without having to say a word…
Bates won an Oscar in 1990 for her role as Annie Wilkes in ‘Misery‘. Annie was a nurse who was also a serial killer. She had killed many of her patients and was not a very nice person (does this bring anyone to mind?).
It’s interesting to know that the US has the same problems as we face in Britain. If anyone has the funding available and is considering going abroad for treatment, I see now why the Lymphoedema Support Network, when it writes about treatment abroad, seems to focus on Europe.
But this video highlights what we all need to think about; in today’s political climate we need to use every trick in the book to ensure the NHS allocates funding where it will best benefit US. When people talk about ‘fight’ for cancer, this is what I think of.
